Just chillin at home

If you were to just randomly ring my door bell you're most likely to find me lounging in an evening gown, resting my feet while my over dressed friend reads antique books...or maybe this was just a one time thing.

These pictures were taken by Jared Reid and I was trying to put together an image that represented how I'd like at least the fashion/clothing side of Gypsy Witch Studio to be seen. The studio and my work is hard to put into one category but I think I will slowly be able to have things seen and represented in a way that's cohesive and not too visually bi-polar.

P.S. If "evening gown" really means bath robe and "resting my feet" means working then that picture is exactly what I look like when I'm home in the middle of the day.

Dressmakers oath?

I'll start this off by apologising for the over exposed picture. This was a sample piece made for my bridal portfolio. It is two sheer layers of gold and blue put together to make this shade of green. I'm not sure about the practicality of a full train skirt but I guess that's not usually what girls are thinking about when they pick out an evening gown. I should really make some sort of oath to only make dresses that women would be comfortable in but I'm just not sure I could keep that promise. There is just something about corsets, train skirts and other imposable to wear details that I don't know if I could do without.

Presenting another dress in a long line of fabricland dress displays. Sometimes a request would be made to make something from the patterns that would be in the latest fliers and on the newest pattern books. So this dress was born to help promote the new line of patterns from Simplicity and the rest of the spring sale flier. What's a girl to do with a room full of evening gowns?

Pink Satin

This is another Fabricland piece made for the bridal fabric section. Doing these sorts of pieces was always good because they did double duty for me being that I could put them in my bridal portfolio.

Lets get married

This is the quintessential wedding gown. Lots of satin, lots of applique, corset and full skirt. This isn't the kind of dress I would wear if I were getting married but it has been interesting being able to live through all the wedding fantasies while making these gowns.

Summer wedding

It's really nice to work in natural fibers but that doesn't happen very often in bridal wear. This was a nice change to get to work with all the technical wedding dress workings of boning and zippers all hidden underneath beautiful layers of linen and self covered buttons. The bead work was done by hand with glass beads on top of machine embroidery. I enjoyed this process a lot.

Sneaking in a little belly dancing

This is one of the sample pieces from my old bridal portfolio. I really love to sew but I must say that sewing for women and girls getting ready for some of the biggest days of their lives was much more of a stressful undertaking than I could have ever imagined. It kind of took some of my passion for sewing away. I think I will stick to theater costumes and fun textile pieces. I miss being able to really experiment and be creative when I sew.
