Happy Birthday Alicia!

Have you ever tried to eat a cupcake the size of your head? Well here's your chance! When I make a cake for someones birthday I try and do something that would be unique to them and when it was time to celebrate my friend Alicia's birthday this was the thing I really wanted to recreate for her. I was a bit worried because I think she was expecting something really different then this but in the end it was a big hit.

P.S. Yes there was a gooey cream filled center!

Happy Belated Birthday Jenny

I'm baking today for my friend Alicia's birthday so even though my sister's birthday was two weeks ago I'm just remembering now to post pictures of her birthday cake, oops! We had a wonderful (or maybe just completely silly) night filled with glow sticks and dancing. I'll spare you all the other strange pictures from that night if you haven't already been exposed to them on Facebook. Her cake was what is now becoming a favorite among my friends, the three layer chocolate brownie ganache cake, with white chocolate covered strawberries. Yum!
P.S. That's a round cake and a 39, I think you could tell in person.

Buttercream Babies!!!!!!!!

My sister and I have officially launched Buttercream Babies a creative cake design business. I do hope you will go visit the new blog which is basically picture after picture of yummy cakes. We also cut and serve retro style in cutesy vintage aprons. Please spread the word.

I'm back!!! Finally!

Well for any of you that noticed that my posts have been more than a little sporadic lately I am back. I have been moving over the last few weeks and yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting a house warming party and getting my computer up and running all in the same day. My family was here and we enjoyed lots of food and drink on my super terrific high in the sky patio. Afterwards of course there was cake, there is always cake. I made this one extra special to honer the big move, summer and of course it was also Canada Day. Plus I put pudding in the cake batter and it was super delicious.

Sister Act

We are done!!! It's been twelve weeks and we learned so much. This is Miss Jenny's cake with all the flowers that we made last week and even more. Oh boy we worked really hard but it paid off. We are hoping to start doing this at least part time and we would love to launch a cake decorating business really soon. Cross your fingers xoxo

Can you say Carpal Tunnel?

Well I do really love the look and outcome of this cake but after making forty of these roses my hands almost fell off. Of course I could make this baby in my sleep now so maybe next time things will go more smoothly.

Who doesn't like presents?

Well they said it couldn't be done. Of course that was before Jenny and I. We were the first ever to finish the fondant cake in the class time given. Of course it took a lot of teamwork and our faces were red from the raised blood pressure but we did it. We were very proud and at this point we are also really sick of cake so I gave my purple cake to the neighbors. I wish I had known that fondant tastes really gross. At least it was really yummy chocolate cake on the inside.

A Little Taste of Spring

Well it looks like spring has sprung outside and in the kitchen. Thank goodness for that! I couldn't wait any longer for either. I didn't have much to show for the rest of this class so I'm really happy to have this finished and feel like I accomplished something. Now I'm moving up in the world to fondant and tiered cakes.

Yippee!!

Here it is boys and girls. All the hard work paid off. I'm sure you will all be happy to know that this will be the last of the cake pictures for the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure that at least some of you were not finding my personal growth in the land of baked goods and confectioners sugar as exciting as I was. I must say though that I will do almost anything if they hand out a certificate at the end so I will be back with more cakes periodically. Please bare with me and my new hobby and feel free to come over for some cake.

A really live circus is coming to town!

This weeks cake decorating class was considerably more enjoyable. I think that was mainly because it wasn't as much work. Mind you I still don't feel like I'm ever going to eat cake again and don't you think those clowns are a bit creepy?

That was a lot of homework!

Well this whole thing has really been something! I started taking a cake decorating class last week because I thought it would be a fun and easy thing to do on Monday nights. This cake is the result of my second class and a weeks worth of shopping, prep work and more money then I'm willing to admit, even to myself. As overwhelming as all the homework was the classes are really interesting and fast paced and way more professional then I was expecting which in the long run I will appreciate but for right now I need a nap. Oh and to add to the hardship I my never eat cake or icing ever again. Sad sad state of affairs.

Boredom Strikes!

This is what happens when I get snowed in. I must have been extremely bored because I actually made two of these. I also somehow managed not to eat any of it. I'm still not sure how that happened. Even though the little houses got dropped off at grandma's house for all the nephews you think I would have caved in during the construction process.
